I’m California born and Texas raised and have been preforming with many different bands since 2006. My passion for playing the bass and song writing started at age 14, and came from my father’s love for classic rock.

In middle school, I played trombone in the New Braunfels Unicorn Honors 2 and 3 band until high school. After high school I was involved with many different bands and promoted shows for local and touring bands I worked with.
Playing bass in many cover bands, I meet many musicians and song writers, and I’m always trying to develop my communication and musical composition skills. I initially started playing guitar and banjo for recording sessions, and quickly developed the chops to utilize these tools to play with even more musicians. I also play mandolin, ukulele and drum set.
I’ve come a long way since teaching Ballroom Dance lessons at “Go 2 Dance” dance studio in San Marcos Texas from 2010 to 2012! (and yes, I can still cha-cha.) In the Fall of 2012 I attended ACC San Marcos Goodnight Community College where I studied early childhood development . Looking for a career, I worked at a fabrication company called “Kitchens on Wheels” where my experience and knowledge of carpentry and texturing was a good fit.
I moved back to my hometown and joined the New Braunfels Music / Hillje Music Centers team in 2013 as a salesman. After about a year working and building relationships with the community, I was asked to manage the New Braunfels Music store.
My love for playing and preforming was rekindled through the ska band “Operation Ivy”.  I’m currently the front man/song writer for the New Braunfels Punk Rock/Ska band “Dollface“. You can catch the band playing gigs from Austin to San Antonio.
I also enjoy playing video games and table top games in my free time – when I gets it! Come to New Braunfels Music and meet the rest of the team!

Ray played baritone at Smithson Valley Middle School, and piano at Smithson Valley High School. He is familiar with reading sheet music, music theory fundamentals, performance preparation, and proper maintenance of band instruments.

Ray Hanly has also played guitar for 10+ years. He has performed with San Marcos band Bonsai Nation since 2009, and recorded 3 full length albums with the band in their San Marcos home studio.

He has also helps local artists, such as Grady Phillip Drugg and Daniel Furman, in the studio with tracking, mixing, and lending his guitar or voice to other artist’s projects. He is familiar with Cubase (and other) recording software, and experienced with recording techniques for isolated instruments, live tracking, and basic mixing techniques (EQ, compression etc…).

Prior to New Braunfels Music, Ray worked his way up from regular employee, to Assistant Manager, and finally to Store Manager at Subway in San Marcos. After a year of managing Subway, he knew it was time for a change and moved to New Braunfels Music to focus his attention on music and advance his education at Austin Community College. He joined the New Braunfels Music team in 2015, and has been expanding his knowledge of all kinds of instruments ever since!
